Visa and residence: I need to extend my visa/residence permit: How do I proceed?

UPDATE: Since May 31, you can only show up if you have already booked an appointment!
  • For urgent cases the units B 1 and B 2 release short-term online appointments for Mondays and Tuesdays on a daily basis.
  • In addition from the 2nd of May 2021 every Wednesday afternoon hundreds of fast lane appointments for the following Thursday at Keplerstraße will be released.

For any questions you don't find answered in the FAQ, you can also contact the counseling service of the Berlin Immigration office!

Important: Please register no earlier than 6 weeks before your residence permit expires!

The certificate you will receive after sending the online form will serve as proof of your application and will extend the validity of your temporary residence document until the date of your personal interview to the LEA. This also applies to all collateral clauses of these documents, in particular with regard to the type and scope of permitted employment.
Please note when travelling abroad (which should not be possible at the moment!): Re-entry into Germany is only possible with a valid residence permit, but not with the certificate to be printed out.
Please read as well carefully information given on the website and the FAQ of our Berlin Immigration Office:
For questions that are not answered in the FAQ, the LEA has set up a telephone hotline.
This can be reached as follows:
telephone numbers: 030-90269-4407 and 90269 – 4408
  • Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m.
